Beauty and the Beast - shoes by madeleinedemontreal Beauty and the Beast - shoes by madeleinedemontreal
Beauty and the Beast on shoes! More commission work, though I wish I were keeping these for myself. :(

The water and the sky are suppose to be sparkly, but I don't know if it came out. Also, I don't know what to do on the inside of Belle's shoe, so if anyone has any ideas....

Feb. 2008

PS - my fingernails are NOT that dirty! I had a marker explosion earlier today and still can't get it off. Ruined my shirt, too.... :/

Thanks, I'm so glad you like them! I use fabric markers and sharpies and sometimes paint, it's great because it's all so permanent. :)

maybe you should draw the beast's castle since you drew belle's home on the beast's shoes?
FYI: I LOVE THESE SHOES!

Wow, thanks! That's really sweet of you, I'm so glad you like them! I've sold a couple to friends already and given them as presents, but I've never considered selling them on the internet. If you're interested in a custom pair, I'd be more than happy to discuss a commission with you!

ohemgee Bruno Pelletier. :) He's a superb French Canadian singer who is absolutely wonderful though relatively unknown, as least here in the US. I've done quite a few drawings of him, as well. You should check him out. ;) (always trying to promote)

Anyway, they're gorgeous! What did you decide to do on Belle's?

Actually, I've seen her shoes (I was browsing dA to see how many other people did shoes too) and her's are AMAZING! ONe day mine'll look like that.... :/ But agreed, she should do Beauty and the Beast because it's the BEST!

I did Gaston, Maurice, and Phillippe on Belle's, by the way.

Awww, thanks! I've gotten a lot of suggestions, but I finished them a little while ago, and I decided on her father and Gaston in a town setting. But thanks again, it sucks to have so many ideas and only so much space!

OMG I love these shoes! So pretty... all covered in roses and whatnot! I love the castle and... ah! I'd totally pay a hundred bucks for these.

Would acrylics work, if one was to make art on canvas shoes? I'm better at painting than I am with markers and inks... :P But then it's a matter of washing them... but acrylics don't usually come out. Hmmmm.

Another question... Did the ink bleed a lot?

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like them! :D

I've talked to a couple of people who have used acrylic and it seems to go on well enough. I'm just not sure about staying because it's water-based. You could mess around with a old pair of sneakers and see how it turns out.

Before working on shoes, I had never used fabric markers before, I was strickly a pencil and paintbrush kinda girl. :P But they're pretty easy to work with. Every now and then I'd get a marker that would bleed...usually if the color next to it was still wet, but they dry pretty quickly, so it's never usually a problem.

I was really nervous I would ruin the shoes the first time I ever tried it (and it was for a commission), so I practiced with the markers on an old t-shirt...definitely recommended.

Agh, sorry! Kind of a long answer, but I hoped it helped. Make sure to post the finished product if you decide to try it, I'd love to see how acrylics turn out. :)

these are awesome! did you get the pose from a disney coloring book? because i used the same pose and that's where i got it. i'm embarrassed by mine now, my belle turned out funky and the fronts are still plain. it's way harder to draw on canvas in pencil than it looks!

I know, right? I had never worked with anything other than pencil and paper until this year, so when I first put markers to canvas, it was like, whoa, funky! With practice, you get the hang of it. I just made a pair based off of Alfonse Mucha's seasons and I was able to draw it up pretty quickly.

And yeah, I got them from a coloring book hahahaha. Who doesn't have a Disney princess coloring book? :P

Question. I love these, by the way. But how did you make them and can you actually wear them/wash them? Or would the drawings get dirty?
Reply
:iconmadeleinedemontreal:
madeleinedemontreal Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2008
I used fabric markers, Encre Pigment Ink Textile Markers, which aren't suppose to wash out of fabrics. After long hard wear, maybe, fading over time and such, but one of them exploded on my sweatshirt and I washed it four times in a row and none of it came out.

But I put them to the ultimate test last night. I made a pair that mimicked a few of Monet's paintings and i wore them to a concert with THE dirtest floor ever and way too many people. I was so nervous when I walked out and saw that my shoes were practically black from people stepping on them all night, but I threw them in the washer when I got home and all the dirt came right off and none of the paint. I'm going to go back and touch up spots on the toe, but that's just cause some of the dirt really stuck in there.

Sorry, that was a crazy long answer! I hope it was helpful though. Are you thinking of trying to make a pair?

That was a VERY good answer, haha! ^^ Exactly what I wanted to hear.

I'm not sure about making shoes myself. I've never done so myself. Do you draw in pencil first or something? I am a very sketchy kind of person. I use help lines everywhere... I'd find it hard to draw something "perfectly" from scratch. Without help lines. I've got a rough style on paper which doesn't translate to shoes, I think; take a look at my latest sketches for examples of how I do my lines... I think I'd ruin a lot of shoes. Lol.

I'm sketchy too! My one friend can take pen to paper and draw without ever having to erase, and that's not me at all. I definitely start with an outline, and, especially on shoes, I've gotten better about not erasing as much. So yeah, I have a rough sketch, which is why I would recommend white canvas shoes, like Keds or something, and then I have a really fine pen and I trace over the pencil. If I'm good, I don't have too much to erase in the end.

You should REALLY try it, it's so much fun! I was nervous when the woman asked me to do this for her, but it's not as hard as it seems, and you can get so creative with colors and borders and things. You should definitely try your hand at it, even if you mess up a pair or two. Good luck!

awww, me too! He's so dumb. "And every last inch of me's covered with hair!"

But I couldn't, in good conscience, put him on there, both characters hate him so much.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite movies ever. Unfortunately, the shoes are not for me, but I'll probably end up making a pair for myself.

No dirt! Just paint! And I'm really mad because I got it on my sweatshirt. But you should see the next pair I'm making. :D I've got everything ready to go, the whole design. Now I just need the shoes. But I don't know if I want to give them away or keep them for myself. You'll probably be the one that ends up with them.

That art you sent me, by the way, was amazing. The first site, especially. I don't know what media it is, but the topic and the layout of them was incredible.

And yeah that art was pretty awesome wasn't it? A lot of the Japanese fan sites have freakin awesome fanart that doesn't make me feel like an idiot lacking in originality and creativity for liking it.
